INTRODUCTION

Fujifilm has shut down parts of its network in consequence of a ransomware attack as an attempt to mitigate the potential damage which is still under investigation.

DETAILS

Fujifilm started off as a photographic film and cameras company but the Japanese giant is now having a market cap of a mammoth $24.48 billion and spread across multiple domains, including medical imaging and diagnostics equipment, cosmetics, pharmaceutical drugs, regenerative medicine, and stem cells, just to name a few.

The company announced that their headquarters, located in Tokyo, was a target of a cyberattack.

“FUJIFILM Corporation is currently carrying out an investigation into possible unauthorized access to its server from outside of the company. As part of this investigation, the network is partially shut down and disconnected from external correspondence,” stated Fujifilm.

The Japanese company said that they had to suspend any and all affected systems as soon as they came to know about the attack on June 1, 2021 and that they are still investigating the total impact the attack can have.

“We are currently working to determine the extent and the scale of the issue. We sincerely apologize to our customers and business partners for the inconvenience this has caused.”

The Fujifilm USA website also has an alert informing the visitors about the network outage that is affecting, along with other departments, all forms of communications, including emails and incoming calls, as they utilize the company’s network systems.
